I would like to ask my blog friends to pray for Maximus. We found out a couple weeks ago that he is going blind. His retina in his right eye is shredded and he is blind in it. The retina in his left eye is beginning to detach. We decided to have surgery done on his left eye to reattach the retina and restore his sight. We are very fortunate that the LSU vet school is one of only 6 or 7 places in the world that can perform this surgery. He had surgery on Wednesday and came home Friday evening. He is recovering well, but it will be a long 6 weeks. He has to wear an Elizabethan collar for the next 4-6 weeks, no playing for several weeks, and have weekly check-ups at LSU. For those of you that know Max, this is going to be tough on him and heartbreaking for us, but it's what has to be done to prevent complications.
Now he will be able to see Jacob grow up for a few more years.

Oh, Gina, I've been there and I am so sorry. When Macy went blind and her retinas spontaneously detached, I was heartbroken. Still to this day I struggle with that whole situation. Don't know if you remember, but she was our Boxer that passed 6 weeks after Mackenzie was born. She never got to see Mackenzie. Anyway, several thousands of dollars in tests, we never did find out why she went blind and got so sick. Do you know why Max's retina detached?
