Since I got divorced, I have been determined to enjoy life again, pick up old hobbies I didn't have time for, and try new things. I have been able to make up for lost time with friends and go to LSU football and baseball games.I even got to enjoy a football game last year from one of the suites! It was a cool experience, but I prefer to be closer to the field in the midst of the rest of the crazy LSU fans. I haven't been able to start back up with all my hobbies, but I have taken up photography again (which I love). I have also been able to fish again.

One thing for sure is I have definitely been trying new things. I have taken a road trip to Atlanta for the Depeche Mode concert, and I drove by myself! I have never driven that far alone. The concert was great (not a surprise since I've seen them live before), and I had a nice time spending the weekend with one of my best friends. I also got to visit my brother and see his new house. I have also been doing more outdoor activities. I went jeeping down the Comite River for the first time. That trip also included my first time camping outside! It was quite an experience, and I honestly can't wait to do it again. Go figure! I have been mud riding a few times, too. I have ridden a dirt bike...more than once. Never thought I'd do that! I put a garden in my backyard with the help of my boys and my Dad. It wasn't as successful as I had hoped, but I plan on seeing if I can grow a winter garden.
The most recent new activity I have tried is hunting. Yes, you read that right...hunting! I grew up watching my Dad and my older brother hunt in the backyard. When you have 11 acres of farmland and woods, you can decide to look for dinner in the backyard at the spur of the moment. I hated it when they brought home the cute, yet bloody and very dead animals. They would bring home dove, squirrel, and rabbits. My Mom would cook whatever they brought back. I would not eat it...any of it. I just couldn't bring myself to eat those adorable furry critters, especially since I had had most of those critters as pets at one point in my life. There was Fred the squirrel and Thumper the rabbit, along with the countless ducks and geese we raised. When I got older, I would occasionally eat deer if it was available. But, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever hunt!! I love fishing and I love being outside in nature. What better way is there to feel close to God and bask in the beauty of this world we live in? That wonderful man in my life that I previously mentioned is an avid hunter. Once hunting season starts, he is gone almost every weekend. When he asked me if I was going to go hunting with him this year, I said yes. I figured why not. If I didn't like it, then I would hang around the camp while he killed whatever he saw (legally of course). Little did I know how much I would like it! I went dove hunting with him 3 weeks ago. I actually killed 2 doves. I missed several others, but I don't think I did too bad for my first time. I helped clean them when we came back from the hunt, too. Gasp!!...I plucked feathers and got blood on my hands. I never in a million years thought I would go hunting much less enjoy it, but I apparently do. I think my favorite part is just being outside in God's country, away from the city, and relaxing.
As Erica asked me on facebook, will I go again? Why, yes...yes, I will! In fact, since that first trip, I completed my hunter's ed course, got my hunting license, and went dove hunting again. I killed 2 more. I was the only woman with 5 men, and I had a great time. Next hunt in a few weeks is squirrel. According to Trey (and common sense), it's much different hunting squirrel than dove. So we shall see how I fare with it. Here are some pics from my first hunting adventure.
