LTR Conference in NOLA

I had my first work-related trip last week. Since becoming a cancer program abstractor, I am a member of the Louisiana Tumor Registrars Association. The LTR Spring Conference was in New Orleans last Thursday and Friday, which meant I had to spend the night in a hotel in the Crescent City. I have to say I didn't want to go. I know, Erica, you're probably saying,"Why the hell not?!" Well, I had not spent a night away from Jacob yet. The thought of leaving him in Jason's care while I was 75 miles away was not pleasant. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and he is a wonderful father. BUT, he has not had to take care of Jacob by himself for that length of time before. Considering it would look quite bad to my bosses if I refused to go for that reason, I sucked it up, said many prayers and went to New Orleans for the first time in about 3 years. Yes, I have not been there since the hurricane. I stayed with a coworker at the Cotton Exchange Hotel on Carondelet. For those of you unfamiliar with New Orleans, Carondelet Street turns in to Bourbon Street when you cross over Canal Street, which was one block away. I stayed one block from the Quarter! It turned out to be a good conference. I enjoyed the lectures, and didn't nod off once. I won 2 door prizes, too. My boss didn't want to eat the lunch that was provided for us, and since she is pregnant, we told her we'd eat wherever she wanted. We walked to Deanie's on Dauphine. It was really good! We had almost an hour to kill after lunch, so she suggested shopping. So we walked to Canal Place and shopped (mainly window-shopped). For dinner, Heather (my coworker) and I ate at The Redfish Grill on Bourbon Street. That was even better. Unfortunately I forgot my camera and I don't have a camera phone. As a result, I have no pictures of my meals to post for you, Erica. I did think of you, Mendy, and Jason while I ate my excellent southern meals.
I am sure you are all wondering what happened at home while I was away. Jacob didn't want to eat what Jason fixed for him, so he ate his baby food. Jason surprisingly got Jacob to bed without difficulty, and he slept all night long! Figures the one night Jason has to take care of him, he doesn't wake up at 3am like he usually does. He got him to daycare in one piece and his clothes matched. I was quite impressed. Apparently, my two men can survive without me for a night. LOL

Ahhh, husbands are ALWAYS underestimated on that first trip away:) I know mine was for sure. And then they step up and do an amazing job. I sometimes think Chris is a better Daddy than I am a Mommy:) Glad you had fun and ate some yummy cajun food for me- I miss it terribly. And the people.
