Since Erica is asking, I thought I should make the time to fill everyone in on the birth of my new little man. I am sorry it has taken me so long to write about Brennan's birth. We were in the hospital for four days because I had a C-section, and a couple days after we came home I had a small setback...a small part of my incision was opening up. Needless to say, I had to stay off my feet as much as possible for several days, which is VERY difficult for me to do. I am very fortunate that my father is a doctor and my mother is a nurse...they doctored me up with a special dressing. Unfortunately, I couldn't take a shower for five days!! I had to bathe at the bathroom sink and wash my hair at the kitchen sink. Not fun, but it could have been worse. I am healed up well now, and I was able to take a shower again last night.
Anyway, on to the good stuff. We had to be to the hospital at 6:00 am to check in and get ready for surgery. There were a couple minor setbacks in the prep for surgery causing the nurses to step up the pace a bit, but surgery started on time at 8:00 am. As I had feared, the epidural was terrible--it was actually worse this time. The doctor didn't give me enough Lidocaine, so he had to take the epidural needle out and give me two more shots to numb my back and stick me with the epidural needle again. It hurt so bad that I thought I was going to jump out of my skin! After that it was pretty smooth sailing. Surgery was over by 8:30 am, we were in the recovery suite within 20 minutes, and he was nursing within another 20 minutes.
Brennan Michael Sommers was born on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 8:11 am. He weighed 8 lbs 1.6 oz, and he was 19.25 inches long. He has a fairly full head of black wavy hair. He has Jason's ears for sure and my mouth and chin. I can't tell yet whose nose he has. Besides the nose, he looks eerily similar to Jacob. He is healthy and growing like a weed. We went for his 2-week checkup this morning, and he is back to his birth weight and 20.25 inches long! He nurses well every 2-3 hours, and he is already getting a double chin. He does have his days and nights mixed up, but he gets a little better with that every night. I don't want to spit up in the air, but I think he will be a better sleeper than Jacob. It has been a big adjustment, but it has been wonderful. Jacob adores him...he says he is adorable all the time and loves to kiss his forehead. He is anxious for him to get bigger so they can play together. He already asked if he could walk outside to play!

You poor thing! Glad you are doing better now. He is adorable! Love the pics with the other kids. How is he sleeping? Have you gotten any rest?
Congratulations Gina! He is beautiful!! I'm impressed that you got something posted this quick. I still haven't posted anything and Avery is 8 months old. Enjoy this precious time.

Thanks, y'all. I am getting some rest. He sleeps up to 3 hours at a time, but it's inconsistent at this point.

Oh Gina, he is beautiful! What a mess with the epidural, but it was well worth it! You and I sound like we are on the same sleep schedule. Boy, is that hard to adjust to or what?! I USED to be an 8 hour a night sleep diva.... not anymore! Glad to hear you are adjusting well and I'm glad you posted pics!
I can't get over all the hair!! Both of my babies were bald for the first two years!! I'm so sorry the surgery was so rough for you. I actually thought the C-section I had with Nick was far less difficult than regular childbirth with Em, but it was still hard to rest and stay still for that long. That's so sweet that Jacob wants him to play. It took Em a little while to realize that Nick wasn't big enough to play with her just yet - plus he was such a tiny little thing we were afraid she would try to pick him up and hurt him. Take care of yourself and try to get some rest, and give me a call in your "spare" time (which I'm sure is nonexistent at this point but I wasn't sure what else to call it).
Love u,
Laura
