Haunted House Flop
I am usually a pretty crafty person. I am definitely artistic. So when my father brought home a chocolate haunted house to put together like a gingerbread house, I thought it would be loads of fun for us. Boy, was...I...wrong. First of all, the directions on the box were not very specific. So there was some confusion as to what piece went where. Second, some of the pieces didn't line up like they were supposed to. The icing helped hold everything together, as it should. However, icing will only go so far as an adhesive if the pieces don't fit together. So part of our roof kept falling off. Lastly, you have to be extremely artistic and patient to be able to decorate a haunted house like the picture on the box. I needed to take a decorating class to come even close to the picture. And we all know that isn't happening anytime soon. The boys did have some fun decorating the house, but they were so eager to eat it that they really didn't care much about decorating. So, I did all of the building and almost all of the decorating. It was way too much work for me. It would have been worth it if it had tasted awesome. Alas, that was not the case. It was edible, but by no means awesome. I guess you live and learn. I might try to tackle a cookie house again one day, but not this year!
Here are some pics of the house and the boys dying to dig into it. As you can see, Brennan literally climbed onto the kitchen island and started eating it before I could even snap a picture. And yes, my sons had clothes on. Their shirts were taken off so the mess that comes along with making one of these things wasn't worse.
Notice the candy corn on the left side of the roof tilting. This is because the roof pieces kept sliding off. LOL
