Madewood Plantation

Jason and I went to Madewood Plantation in Napoleonville, LA, for our 5th wedding anniversary. We had a really good time. We ate some great food, met people from all over the world, and got a great lesson in history.

This is the view of Madewood from the road.
This plaque out by the road gives a brief history of the plantation. It was built out of cypress from the land and bricks made on site by the plantation slaves.
This oak tree in the backyard was so magnificent (and huge), I had to take a picture of it. To the right of the tree is the family cemetery. Some of the headstones have dates-of-death from the early 1800's.
This is our room. We stayed in the Charlet House, which is directly behind the main house. The house belonged to Captain Charlet before it was moved to the plantation, and it was built in 1822! For all those Brad Pitt fans out there (me included), he stayed in another room in the Charlet House for one night while filming Interview With a Vampire down the road at Oak Alley.

I had one of the other guests take our picture next to one of the giant limbs of the oak tree pictured above.
